So guess what?
The other day someone asked me for some blogging tips.
Can you imagine? Me?
Yeah, I know but still. I took this as a huge compliment and definitely considered not answering her email.
What advice could I possible offer? She wanted to know how she could make some extra money blogging (and as soon as someone can fill me in, I will be happy to pass that info along).
All I can do is put myself out there and hope someone likes what they see… enough to pay for it. I refuse to blog about cat litter boxes –even if they are paying a whopping $1.50 per post.
Selling my body wouldn’t go for much more but still, it’s the principle.
Anyway, I blog for love not war.
All’s I know is that if I ever did make money doing this so fun blog, I think my husband would drop of a heart attack…which would lead to a large life insurance settlement…which could in turn be considered making money from blogging…what? It could count. I’m only trying to help.
But instead of boring her to death with all that, I thought of writing her and responding the only way that I know how; by butchering a quote from a French philosopher:
I feel, therefore I blog.
Why did she ask me again?
Let’s see….I'll start at the beginning…..Type in Google….What is a blog?.....answer:
Your blog is whatever you want it to be- Got that straight from Blogger, btw
And blogs mean and are so many different things to so many different people.
Maybe I’m an authority on the minority? Or perhaps she senses the train wreck passion that I have for this blog and is inexplicably drawn to it. Maybe I was the only one with a legitimate email address.
But she did ask so in true can’t-ever-keep-my-mouth-shut fashion, I told her that I once read a blog about a blog who blogged about a blogger who blogge…ouch my head.
Anyway, she said ‘write good content and the rest will follow.’ She might have said more but that was all that I heard.
Well there you have it folks! Brown stained pearls of wisdom - our next item up for bid on the Blog is Right!
Betcha nobody asks me again.
What can I say?
You can’t polish a sneaker (-:

Cute post! It is hard. I just started and what I think is funny may not be funny to others... especially when my husband is telling everyone he knows to read my blog. Now that is pressure I tell you!
When I wrote for television I was always asked how to get an agent. "Write good content and the rest will follow," is pretty much the truth. Write something so good that you can't be denied. Of course, considering the majority of crap that's on television, that's probably not saying much, but I do believe that good writing does always find a following. However, that following may not always be followed by cash.
No one will pay us to blog, because everyone knows we'd do it for free anyway.
As soon as a blogger starts getting free crap in the mail, I can instantly tell. Yuck, I hate those blogs. Don't sell me crap. I'm all for new rules that require a blogger to disclose whether he/she's getting paid for what he/she writes. Journalists have to do it, why should bloggers get to pretend they really love those cat litter boxes, when they're getting paid to write it.
LMAO - I blog for love, as you put it. I share what is going on here and hope it might be useful to somebody.
I'm beginning to love blogging! I think it's a great way to let go of your frustrations or make people laugh or just to write about anything. No matter how random. Sometimes we just need to get it out. :-) And if people love our blog or even just one of our posts, it's great to know that we may have reached someone on some level. :-) But in the end, we have to do what makes us happy. :-)
I'm pink, therefore I'm SPAM.
I love blogging. It would be nice to make a living doing it but primarily only political bloggers do that.
Cute post! You are too funny!
I just started blogging in august. I just blog what I feel that morning. If I want to use the f bomb a bizillion times I do. LOL..
You can't get paid with the crap I write about LOL... maybe a reality tv show would better but than it might sound like the osbornes and the whole show is bleeped. :)

If I made money blogging, my husband would also pass out and die. If I made money at it though, he would stop bugging me about being on the computer all the time.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Actually, couldn't have said it this well myself either.
When people write me asking for blog advice I'm always equally flattered and frightened. I don't know anything about anything, what good am I going to be?
Also, this post made me miss Bob Barker a little bit. By the end of his TPIR run he was definitely not at the top of his game but he was still way better than Drew Carey at it.
I hear people make money with blogs, but I guess I'm never in the right place at the right time!
"Write good content and the rest will follow." Wise advice indeed. Now also take some Valium and try not to freak out over the lack of comments. And by god, stay away from the stats page on your dashboard! Just by staring at it all day is not going to make the number go higher! (Cough cough. I learned of that kind of pathetic behavior from a friend of mine...)
Being able to write about everyday events and making it read like a short story is a rare talent, and not one that can likely be taught easily. Otherwise, I would be asking how you do it.
I've always wondered about how much money people can make blogging. Let me know when you get the scoop. It would definitely be a dream job!
