Big Schmuck Island

Call the Howell’s!

I am finally being rescued.

Yes, I’ve built an escape raft and stuffed it solid with job classified newspaper.

Now my bra is a little bit emptier but who cares…

I’m quitting my job!

And I have this dream of giving my notice by way of a big fat grenade up my boss’s ass but…

Dammit all to hell…

I will take the high road and just sabotage the company’s website from an anonymous computer…

…located on a high road of course…

Sheesh, have a little faith people.

I am not one for change.

AT ALL.

Give me my same routine every day of the week, don’t rock the boat and I’ll live happy.

In fact, it’s been years since me and my old buddy Spontaneity have hung out.

I hate her and she hates me.

It’s no secret.

And hate is ok as long as it is mutual btw.

But, that old definition of insanity has really been haunting me lately.

You know…

Doing the same thing day in and day out and expecting different results…

I can only ignore common sense but for so long…usually.

But it was like a constant ringing in my ears competing with all of the other mental traffic.

It was getting pretty confusing up in there yo.

So I sucked it up and called old Sponti. And surprisingly, after all these years, she took my call right away.

She, of course, encouraged me to just go for it.

She dangled the higher potential salary but greater risk right in front of me and just like old times, I grabbed it.

She always knew I was a sucker.

So tune in for the Celebrity Death Match of Me vs. Change.

I’m sure there will be plenty of blood, sweat and tears which should all make for great entertainment… or a room in the Looney Bin, whichever comes first.

Now, if you all will excuse me, I have to go clean out the crap in my pants.

So how do you guys feel about change?

Oh My Goodness! I HATE change! Last time I changed jobs, I hated the job I was in and knew the new one was bound to be better. I still dreaded it to the point of hysterical tears on a regular basis! But I am SO glad I took that leap and changed jobs because I have been SO MUCH happier!

ReformingGeek on June 9, 2010 at 4:46 PM said...

Ka-ching. Yes, I'll take your spare change.

Oh, wait.

You meant ch-ch-CHANGE.

Scary but invigorating!

Can't wait to hear more.

Well, I resist and resist and resist change, UNTIL I've made up my mind that I ree-heally want that new job/haircut/ice cream and then I have to have it, immediately. Once I'm over the hump, I'm totally committed.

Congrats!

Sometimes I hate change, but other times I get so stuck in a rut or routine that I say bring it on, LOL!! Good Luck to you and your big change:)

I don't even like the word...it skeers me.
However, I like watching others fight with change...it reinforces my idea that change is evil.
In fact, writing the word 3 times in this comment actually skeers me.

Ahh me and sponti have been hanging out. I've quit a couple job just on the spur of the moment and it was the best decision ever. Move on to different things. Not necessarily bigger or better. Just...different.

Good luck!!

Whaddya know?! I've had crap in my pants too! And I'm more than happy to share my Loony room. It's perfect and big...you know...so we don't have to small talk if we dont wanna :o)

I actually love change, I am one of those people who was forever seeking the next challenge, job, home, country, activity, place to visit, or thing to do. I would get itchy feet every few years and go hunting out the new job opportunity that would have be packing my bags, house and home and all. Now I have my daughter I am more grounded, but if some opportunity arose that meant we could take our daughter and not be worried about a move or new adventure I would still seriously think about it.

So the best of luck in your new venture, good for you for listening to spontaneity and making that leap of faith!

Good for you! This is great! I love new jobs and new places to live. Plus all your old tired clothes are fun and new at a new job! (Nobody has seen them before.) And you can be mysterious and totally different from how you were at your last job! This rocks!

I get nervous about change, but I usually embrace it.

Spare change? Pocket change? Rattling change in the pocket that sounds like Tic Tacs or Good & Plenty? Not really.

Sounds more like someone losing their marbles, which was probably me. I had one of those "I suck days" today, perimenopausal, afloat in a turbulent changeable sea without a map or compass. Sorry for the rant. I'm paddling back to shore. My mind was too cheap to buy a motor boat.

Change is good, as long as you have enough cents and can see how the coins stack on the table. Remember, the dealer usually wins.

Seriously, my mother changed jobs after working at an office for twenty-five or thirty-years. Who can count? She wondered why she didn't do it sooner. You don't want to get stuck in the "what if" rut.

Wow. WTG Miz Sponti! Oh and you too Mrs. Blogsalot!

Congrats and I hope it works out terrific, because I got dibs on the Looney Bin, m'dear! *grin*

Sometimes change is good. I mean if things never changed we'd never grow.

Ziva on June 10, 2010 at 1:11 AM said...

Congrats on taking the leap and good luck! My mother has a philosophy: she says 5 years in any workplace is enough and after 5 years you should move on. And for the past 25 years she's changed jobs or went back to studying every 5 years. She's now highly educated and has moved up the ladder considerably in the work and pay department. So I think I'll take her philosophy to heart and try to keep life interesting. Knowing me and my lazy ass, though, I'll probably work in the same place for 40 years and then retire.

Congratulations, so ballsy! I love it. I like change, I do, but I like change on a grand scale, a new house, a new town, a new kid. Smaller change, not quite as good at, a new pick up time at school throws me into a tizzy.

Just stopping in from SITS.

Kudos to you tho. Good Luck.

I am learning to embrace the change, is a stretch sometimes, as humans we like routine and constancy.. then however that can become complaceny, so congrats to you for shaking it up!

One day about 3 years ago, I was sitting in my office holding the phone to my ear as my boss three states away was screaming at me. Out of the blue, I decided to interrupt the tirade and did so by saying this, "You know, you've got better things to do than yell at me. And you know what? I do too. I quit." I hung up the phone, drove home & got my husband, he came back to the office with me and we packed up my stuff and that was that. GOD DAMN IT BUT THAT WAS JUST ABOUT THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!!!!

I adore change because I get bored very easily. That probably why I usually quit my job every 3 years or so. I like to keep it fresh and funky. Oh, wait...that' an oxymoron. Well, you know what I mean.

I was just thinking about this today because change is roaring around me. As much as I hate it and have big crybaby temper tantrums, when it comes to the change I feel reenergized and I know it's trite, but I really do look at the world in a whole new way.

So much good luck on your new change.

Change is good - keeps the brain going, the mold off of you and gives you a challenge. If it doesn't work, you change again. Nothing in this life is forever, so take control, YOU make the change instead of life doing it for you.

CONGRATS!

Change is good . . . change is good . . . say it with me now . . .

That was my mantra during all of our moves, when it seemed like a better idea would be to strangle my husband and his job change and dispose of the body and live my life as a widow who was at least able to live in the same house and keep her doctor and bank.

I'm a better person for it, though, and so will you be!

Change is my middle name and I hate it. I would love for things to just stay the fucking same for a little while. As it is I just begin to get the hang of something be it a job, husband or house and then "bam" someone comes along and pulls that old rug out.

Your kind of change sounds much better.

Love the ass grenade!

Best of luck. I have stayed in the same job with zero opportunity for over 3 years now - so I'm familiar with hanging on to the familiar. I'll have to live vicariously through your change.

And did you say the new job comes with more $$ -- that IS good change :D

Grab An Award-see below

Finally, you do not need to be a recipient of an award to give an award!

Grab An Award – My way of awarding it forward. The only rules are: THERE ARE NO RULES (Only rule is no rules? Rule for rules? Is that a rule? I’m so confused)

And what is nicer than giving an award with no strings attached just because?

So in the spirit of fun blog awarding and ‘cause I think they’re a great way to connect and share the blog love with our awesome fellow bloggers (without the chain letter affect-they give me the willies), I have created The Divine Blogger and Rock Star Blogger Awards to grab-I know, fancy right? -(o.k. so I won't quit my day job)

Grab it and let the lucky recipient (s) know that you have given them a rule-free award and not to be afraid to pick it up on your site. Once they grab it from your site, they are free to pass it along to others (rule-free of course). And anyone can grab it from their sites to pass on as well.

Hope you all enjoy awarding it forward!

Now hurry! Go make room in your closet for all that good karma. And please get rid of those old sweatpants while you're at it! (-:
